Making of "The Occult Conservatory"

Being from southwest Missouri, the first thing that comes to my mind when I decide that I want to make a large flower skirt is chicken wire.  Little bit southern, wouldn't you say?  The skirt took a total of 12 hours for Ravon and I to complete with only 2 hours to spare before the shoot.  This shoot was such a dream come true for me.  The location is all I could ever ask for, the gorgeous Ravon modeled for me and there is no way I could have made the costume without her either, and the costume was absolutely beautiful and incredibly unique.

It might be a few days before I have the photos edited and ready to reveal to you lovely people so for the time being I was hoping I could show you just a glimpse of what went on behind the scenes to make this shoot happen.

 For me, this was not only a shoot.  It was learning how to work with someone else who may not have the same mental vision as I do but accepting their idea because it is simply better.  In the photography community, there are two types of people.

1. The people who want to learn from others and grow as  a whole
2. The people who think they know best because they are the photographer.

Yes, I am guilty of being type 2 maybe a little more than I should but thats what is so great about working with new people all the time.  You learn different lessons from each experience with someone new.  I am so fortunate to have my friends model for me and that we can cherish these memories and have some pretty cool photos to show for them, too.

 I am lucky enough to have supportive friends and family who love to encourage my creative side and help challenge me along the way and if it wasn't for them, I wouldn't be going through this photography journey still.  It would have ended soon after it started, in all honesty.  But like I said, I am blessed to have people in my life that will gladly work with me, encourage me, and inspire me just by the way they live their lives.

Here is a quick little video to show how we plan and really plan it out instead of winging it! I love working with Kelsi because she always has her input and doesn't say "Oh, it doesn't matter to me," or, "I don't care," when I ask her questions about what she wants from the shoot.  We always do so good because of that honesty she has!  Hope you enjoy it. :)

Breathe Me

So today my post will be a bit different than my usual.  I began it with my final image like usual, but I have also attached photos straight from my camera prior to any Photoshop expanding and editing!!  I have never released photos prior to photoshopping them!  Hope you enjoy seeing the before and after, because it took quite a while for me to get it the way I wanted it :)

Fairytale Living

This was my first out of three days spent with the one and only ROSIE HARDY!  Shooting with her, staying with her, and of course editing with her!  She is such a doll and I feel like I walked away from the experience with a new friend that I really care for!  She's so kind and a joy to spend time with.  Her enthusiasm about photography and life in general just puts a smile on your face and is one of those people who can cause you to be in the best mood of your life!! :D  These are my three final images from the first day of shooting with her!  I'll post day two and three soon (as quick as I'm done editing them they will be up)  This has been the most amazing experience for me, I can't even stop smiling!  Hope you enjoy these shots.

Let's Just Waste Time

Okay so this is from the day I started my 365 day project (take a photo(s) everyday for a year).  I was with three of my friends. One who is the sweetest girl you will ever meet and is just absolutely stunning (model).  The second being Miss Bryley Jae who we love and love to screw with incessantly (blonde). Last but not least, JeLynn who you see screwing with Bryley in many of these photos (bright pink shirt girl).  While we were on this trail shooting a sweet little pup found us and took to us immediately.  He was starved and bony and he kept eating the flour that we were throwing around and it was so heart breaking (yes, I took him home with me and he played with my dog Kevin and ate a good meal).  

So many people expect me to be completely serious all throughout my shoots, which as you can see is definitely not the case.  We get into trouble sometimes and we goof off but we still get good shots and we create even more memories.  Being 15 I am too young to take myself so seriously as a photographer and needless to say it is much more fun this way! :)
