Rescued Life

BIG DAY TODAY!  I went to the local animal shelter here in town which is and I realize you guys are from all over the world, you aren't going to adopt an animal from here but if you could go on there and donate or sponsor a pet, it could make a HUGE difference!!!  I got the full tour today around the shelter before I started taking portraits, and it was heart breaking to see all of the sick, starved, and beaten animals.  I am so proud to say that the Joplin Humane Society hardly ever puts the animals to sleep unless they are incurably ill or have a terrible disposition.  Unfortunately, that is not the case for all shelters.  If more of us could go and spend a couple of hours at the local shelter each week (or even just once) it could really help.  There is so much laundry to be done for towels and blankets and just cleaning the facility.  You don't even have to be around the animals if you don't want to because there are so many different things that need to be done to keep a shelter running smoothly. Seeing their website this morning I was shocked to see that there were so many animals that had their picture on there but you couldn't even see their faces.  I have wanted to volunteer for a long time but I never knew exactly what I wanted to do and where to go and as soon as I saw that I packed my equipment in the car and told my dad what I wanted to do and he took me and handled the animals while I took the photographs. (I wouldn't suggest doing it by yourself because you need two hands to focus & hold your camera with no hands left for the animals!)  If you would like to find a specific type of animal that needs to be rescued and is in your area you can go to!  I would love think you guys will be inspired by this and can volunteer STILL while doing something you love, just like I did!  xoxo.  Can't wait to keep you guys updated on all the animals and how the shelter is doing! :)
